Carters' Summer Stage
Welcome to the Carters' Farm Newsletter, where you can find information on farm events and produce, our favorite recipes, and reflections from the family. We hope you enjoy!
Come on out to the Carter farm on the evening of July 3rd for the inaugural Carters’ Summer Stage: Music at the Farm. Starting at 6:30pm, enjoy the musical performances from the Abello family and the Golden Harbor Quartet as they sing songs and genres inspired by the musical interests of Russell and Maxine Carter. Genres include bluegrass, gospel, folk, and classical.
This event is FREE and open to the public. However, guests must RSVP on our website so that we know how many people to expect for seating and food. So come on out to the farm on a summer evening and enjoy some hors d’oeuvres before the performance and dessert during the concert intermission. While this event is free, we will be accepting donations to cover the cost of the performers, food, and labor.
Mark your calendars for an evening of food and music at Carters’ Summer Stage!
Performers
The Abello family, or Figuring It Out, hails from Bemidji, MN and boasts a wide-array of talent from banjo and bass, to viola and vocals. The Abellos have played at the Carters’ Fall Festival for the last few years and will also return this autumn as well. Their first set will focus on bluegrass selections, while their second set will include folk and classical tunes.
The Golden Harbor Quartet, inspired by the Golden Street Quartet, was formed in recent years and has sung at church and community events in the Park Rapids area. They will be performing a selection of gospel and classic folk songs.
Poetry
“The Man Born to Farming” — Wendell Berry
The Grower of Trees, the gardener, the man born to farming,
whose hands reach into the ground and sprout
to him the soil is a divine drug. He enters into death
yearly, and comes back rejoicing. He has seen the light lie down
in the dung heap, and rise again in the corn.
His thought passes along the row ends like a mole.
What miraculous seed has he swallowed
That the unending sentence of his love flows out of his mouth
Like a vine clinging in the sunlight, and like water
Descending in the dark?
